Meta pulls the plug on controversial AI feature

Meta has deactivated a Muse Image capability that allowed users to generate AI images by @-mentioning public Instagram accounts. The feature, which functioned without explicit permission from account owners, faced immediate backlash from users and organizations like SAG-AFTRA and CAA over privacy and likeness concerns.

Meta acknowledged the feedback, stating the tool “missed the mark” and is no longer available for use across its platforms.
