Ofcom Probes TikTok Child Safety

The UK regulator has launched a formal investigation into TikTok over potential failures to protect children from harmful content. Ofcom is specifically scrutinizing the platform’s age inference technology, which estimates user age based on behavior rather than formal documentation.

Regulators fear the system may fail to identify many children, potentially exposing them to inappropriate material. TikTok faces fines of up to 10% of global revenue if found in breach of the Online Safety Act.
