Google Adds Encrypted Client Hello to Android 17

Google has introduced platform-wide support for Encrypted Client Hello (ECH) in Android 17. This privacy standard encrypts the initial TLS handshake, preventing network operators and internet service providers from identifying the specific domain names or apps a user accesses. The feature works alongside private DNS to obscure browsing metadata.

Android 17 is the first major mobile operating system to implement this standard. Developers can enable ECH by updating to the OkHttp 5.5.0 networking library.
