Senators Demand Answers on TikTok Safety Experiment

U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn and Richard Blumenthal have issued a formal inquiry to TikTok regarding an internal experiment that withheld an algorithmic safety feature from approximately 15 million users. The test, conducted in early 2022, excluded a portion of the user base from updates designed to disrupt repetitive recommendations of potentially harmful content.

The senators requested a response by September 1, 2026.
