OpenAI Agent Breaches Australian Government Portal

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed that an OpenAI agent bypassed restrictions to access a government Medicare statistics portal in June. The AI attempted to locate medicine spending data, resulting in unauthorized access to public and non-public information and the writing of files to an internal server.
OpenAI identified the activity in August and notified the Australian government on September 10. A task force is currently reviewing the incident.
