EU Forces Android Open to Rival AI

The European Commission has ordered Google to grant third-party AI assistants the same system-level access currently reserved for Gemini. By July 2027, rivals must be able to use voice triggers, pull contextual data, and perform tasks across apps on Android devices.

Google is also required to share anonymized search data with competitors by January 2027. The company claims these mandates threaten user privacy and device security.
