TikTok is back on federal devices

The US Department of Justice has cleared federal employees to download TikTok on government-issued devices. The reversal follows a restructuring of the app’s US operations into a joint venture majority-owned by American investors, including Oracle. Officials stated this version functions independently of ByteDance and no longer poses the security risks that triggered the 2022 ban.

Individual agencies retain the discretion to restrict the app for workforce management or productivity reasons.
