Amazon Proposes 5,105-Satellite Network

Amazon has filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission to launch a constellation of up to 5,105 low Earth orbit satellites. The network aims to provide direct-to-device connectivity, including voice, messaging, and data services, to smartphones in areas lacking terrestrial cellular coverage.

The project follows Amazon’s planned acquisition of Globalstar. Satellite deployment is scheduled to begin in 2028.
