Starting August 2, 2026, the European Union requires companies to label AI-generated or manipulated content that appears authentic. This mandate covers images, audio, and text designed to look real, including deepfakes and informational content published without human editorial oversight. Artistic, satirical, and fictional works are exempt from these transparency requirements.
Non-compliance with these rules can result in fines reaching up to three percent of a company’s total gross revenue.
