OpenAI Removes Text Chat Limits for Free Users

OpenAI is removing rate limits for text-only prompts on free and Go ChatGPT accounts. While text conversations will no longer be capped, usage limits remain in place for image generation, file uploads, and voice mode features. The company is also transitioning these accounts to the GPT-5.6 Luna model this week.

A new Think button for complex reasoning tasks will begin rolling out to free and Go users next week.
