GitHub Reports Surge in Commit Volume

GitHub experienced a recent service outage lasting over seven hours, which the company attributed to capacity failures rather than configuration changes. Platform data shows that monthly commits have increased from 1.4 billion in April to 2.9 billion as of August 2026.

The platform is currently reviewing CPU and memory alerts to address infrastructure scaling. The company reported that monthly commits have more than doubled in the last four months.
