Dutch Regulator Fines Uber €825 Million

The Dutch Data Protection Authority has issued an €825 million ($966 million) fine against Uber for using automated systems to deactivate driver accounts without adequate warning or human intervention. The decision, dated August 17, covers incidents occurring between 2020 and 2022 following complaints from drivers in France.

Uber has announced plans to appeal the penalty, which currently stands as the second-largest fine ever issued under the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation.
