Deep-sea drone fleet to expand ocean coverage

The Argo Program, an international collaboration, plans to deploy 30 additional deep-sea floats by 2028. These autonomous devices are designed to reach depths of 6,000 meters to collect data on the abyssal zone, where 10 percent of ocean warming occurs.

This expansion will integrate with the existing fleet of 4,000 devices to monitor more than 98 percent of the world’s ocean volume.
