Australia Doubles Social Media Fines

l-intro-1782665535

Australia is doubling the maximum penalty for social media companies that fail to enforce its under-16 ban, raising fines to 99 million AUD (approx. $68 million). The government argues platforms are not doing enough to comply, as studies suggest many teens still access these apps.

New reforms will also grant the eSafety Commissioner stronger powers to compel companies and third-party providers to supply evidence of their age-verification efforts.
