Ford Recalls Veteran Engineers After AI Quality Failures
Ford has rehired over 350 veteran engineers, internally dubbed “gray beards,” to address persistent issues with its automated quality-control systems. Executives admitted that relying solely on AI to ingest design requirements failed to produce high-quality products, leading to significant warranty costs and recalls.
These experts are now training younger staff and rebuilding data pipelines. Ford remains committed to AI, having added 100,000 automated tests to its development process.
