A New Robot for Dental Drilling
Researchers at the University of Basel are developing the Miniature Intraoral Robot (MIR), a device designed to attach directly to a patient’s teeth. By mounting to a custom-fitted splint, the robot moves with the patient’s head during procedures.
The goal is to streamline crown fittings by allowing dentists to scan and order crowns in a single visit. Currently, the robot has only been tested on ceramic teeth in a lab setting.
