EU mandates Google open Android to AI rivals

The European Commission is forcing Google to grant third-party AI assistants deeper access to Android functions, including voice activation and task delegation. The ruling, under the Digital Markets Act, also requires Google to share its search data with competitors at a fair price.
Google claims these measures threaten user privacy and security. The data-sharing mandate takes effect in January 2027, with the Android changes following in July 2027.
