France Blocks Social Media Ban for Minors
France’s Constitutional Council struck down legislation that would have banned children under 15 from using social media. The court ruled the bill disproportionately infringed on freedom of expression and failed to provide necessary legal safeguards for privacy regarding mandatory age verification requirements.
President Emmanuel Macron has instructed Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu to redraft the proposal. The original bill, approved by lawmakers in July, was intended to take effect on September 1.
