OpenAI Disbands Preparedness Team

OpenAI has dissolved its internal Preparedness team, which was tasked with evaluating catastrophic risks associated with advanced AI models. The company initiated this change at the end of July as part of a broader organizational restructuring process.

Responsibilities previously held by the team, including the assessment of biological and cybersecurity threats, have been reassigned to other existing groups within the organization. The closure occurred in July 2026.
