Webb Telescope Locates Farthest Fast Radio Burst

l-intro-1791548424

Astronomers have identified the host galaxy of FRB 20240304B, the most distant fast radio burst recorded to date. Initially detected by the MeerKAT telescope on March 4, 2024, the signal originated from a small, star-forming dwarf galaxy. Data from the James Webb Space Telescope confirmed the burst occurred when the universe was approximately three billion years old.

The host galaxy is 1,000 times less massive than previously studied FRB sources. The redshift was measured at 2.148.
