Google DeepMind Launches SL2T Sign Language Model

Google DeepMind has introduced SL2T, a sign-language-to-text model debuting on the Pixel 11 series. The model integrates into Gboard and Live Transcribe, allowing users to sign American Sign Language (ASL) directly into the camera for text input in messages, web searches, and Gemini queries.

The system uses on-device tracking to convert hand and body movements into geometric coordinates, discarding raw video to maintain privacy. The feature launched on August 12, 2026.
